How To Fix A Blocked Or Clogged Drain

When you find yourself with a blocked drain and don’t know what to do or how to get it fixed then here are a few tips.

Is your drain blocked?

Do you suspect a blocked drain but you’re not positive? Here are some signs that you’re dealing with a blocked drain;

  • Gurgling noises
  • Slowly draining water
  •  Strange smells coming from your drains

If you’re noticing these signs then it seems you’re dealing with a blocked drain and below are a few things you can try to fix the issue on your own or with a professional.

Try a plunger

Using a plunger is one of the safest and probably most common methods of de-clogging a drain yourself. Most people either have a plunger already or are able to purchase one relatively easy. However, if you don’t have a plunger there is another option you can try to resolve your issue yourself before calling in a professional.

Try Boiling Water

A lot of sink blockages (particularly in the kitchen) are caused by oils and similar minerals. Therefore, an easy way to try clearing the drain yourself is to boil some water and pour it down the drain.

Give Hello Plumbing a call

If both of the above suggestions don’t work for you, it’s best to call a plumber as soon as possible. It can be tempting to continue trying to fix the issue on your own but ultimately too much fiddling or mixing chemicals can end up resulting in a bigger issue and may be more costly for you in the long run.
